Mayor Cooper and Blake Moore presented certificates recognizing April Dean and Blake Faulk for district awards from the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association. April Dean was honored as ARPA District 6 administrative staff of the year and Blake Faulk received a grounds crew award.
Following the recognition, the council considered and adopted an amendment to the employee classification plan that creates four park maintenance crew leader positions (pay grade 12) and a parks and recreation intern position (pay grade 4, step 15). Speaker 8 explained the change eliminates four Worker II positions and reclassifies them as crew leaders to create supervisory/promotional opportunities without increasing total headcount. The intern position converts an existing rec-leader role to part-time to reduce overtime and provide opportunities for students in relevant degree programs.
Speaker 12 moved to adopt Resolution 10626a amending the classification plan; Speaker 4 seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Staff said they will monitor the changes for six months and may revert roles if they do not meet operational needs.
