Kuna City swears in two newly elected members, honors departing councilor and elects a new council president

Kuna City held a brief Jan. 6 meeting to swear in newly elected council members Michael Rocco and Chris Bruce, present a service award to outgoing councilor John Laraway and elect Chris Bruce as the council president.

The mayor opened the meeting and announced the swearing-in and an award recognizing Laraway's service from Sept. 15, 2020, through Jan. 6, 2026. Carlin Leroy, Laraway's spouse, said Laraway's votes "reflect his genuine care and his commitment to the people who call Kuna home." Chief of Police Mike Fortusco also praised Laraway's long record of public service and military service in the U.S. Coast Guard.

After the ceremonial items, the council reconvened for a second session and accepted nominations for council president. A council member nominated Chris Bruce, the nomination was seconded, and the body approved Bruce by voice vote with no opposition recorded.

During the public comment period, resident John Lehi urged the council to "re-evaluate" subdivisions that have sat undeveloped, saying they should be reviewed every five years to keep them aligned with the comprehensive plan. Michael Law, another commenter, reminded the council that their oath is "to the constitution" and urged members to consider constitutional limits when making policy.

The mayor and several council members thanked staff and departing and incoming members for their service. The meeting adjourned after brief announcements.
