EDC highlights grant options including a Talent Recruitment state grant; county staff to follow up

Adam Memore, representing the LCO economic‑development group, told Sawyer County that downtown businesses reported positive holiday activity and that the EDC has submitted a Thrive Grama grant application for $25,000 to support its business incubator and marketing.

Memore emphasized a Talent Recruitment state grant currently open (Jan. 5–30) that can provide up to $500,000 for recruitment incentives but requires a demonstrable 20% municipal match. He said private businesses can potentially contribute to or offset that 20% match so the county’s direct cost could be reduced depending on application structure.

"This is a state grant ... up to $500,000. 20% of that money spent would have to come from the municipality," Memore said, adding that the EDC is willing to work with county staff to draft an application and explore mechanisms for private sector participation.

Memore also noted a legislative update on a forestry revitalization bill and invited county officials to a March 13 EDC event; he offered to arrange a Wisconsin Economic Development Association lobbyist briefing for the board.
