Senators press DMV changes: propose two-year inspections, mini‑truck registration fixes and a flotation-device rule

Multiple senators asked the committee to prioritize DMV miscellaneous changes during early hearings.

Senator B (unnamed) listed items he wants in the DMV miscellaneous bill: clearer rules for mini-truck registration, a proposed flotation-device requirement, and a move from annual safety inspections to a two-year inspection cycle. "I would like this to prioritize, maybe similar to what the Pro Tem said," he said.

Senator C (unnamed) and others raised concerns about inspection frequency and enforcement burdens. They said annual inspections can be especially onerous for lower-income vehicle owners and inspection-station operators. "I hear that a lot... it's the one thing I've heard the most from constituents," one member said, urging review of the DMV manual and enforcement practices.

Committee members agreed to examine the inspection manual and how inspection policy intersects with revenue and equity goals before finalizing changes.
