Delaware County Council elects William "Bill" Hughes as council president; Matt Kantz named president pro tem

The Delaware County Council elected William "Bill" Hughes as council president and chose Matt Kantz as president pro tempore during its reorganizational meeting. Nominations were made from the floor and the council approved both selections by roll call.

Council members also publicly thanked outgoing leader Eugene Whitehead for his service to the body. The nominations and votes were procedural and carried without recorded opposition.

The leadership changes were followed by routine agenda approvals and committee appointments to populate standing and ad hoc committees for the coming term. The council set the date for its next meeting as Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 9 a.m.

No formal policy changes were made as part of the leadership elections; the council moved on to committee and personnel business after completing the reorganizational votes.
