Board approves purchase of 11+ acres to extend East Lake Landfill site life

The Board of Supervisors approved a negotiated agreement on Jan. 6 to purchase just over 11 acres adjacent to the East Lake Landfill in Clear Lake, a county official said, and adopted a resolution to record the grant deed.

Public Services Director Lars Ewing summarized the proposal as a multi-year landfill expansion plan that is constructed in phases. He said the parcel would extend estimated site life by about five years for a future phase anticipated in eight to 10 years. The board had previously given conceptual approval to a negotiating committee in 2021, Ewing said, and staff has since reached agreement with property owners.

Supervisor Sabatier moved to approve the purchase agreement and authorize the chair to sign; the motion carried 5-0. The board also offered and adopted the resolution accepting recordation of the grant deed by unanimous vote.
