Clay County board elects Jenny Mogel chair, Kravanoff vice chair; approves 2026 meeting schedule and routine resolutions

The Clay County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6 elected new leadership for 2026 and approved the board's 2026 meeting calendar and several routine resolutions.

Election of leadership: Commissioners nominated and elected Commissioner Jenny Mogel as chair for 2026; the motion carried by voice vote. The board also elected Commissioner Kravanoff as vice chair. Commissioners thanked outgoing leadership for 2025 and recognized the time commitment required of the chair.

Meeting schedule and exceptions: County staff proposed continuing regular meetings on the first four Tuesdays of each month at 8:30 a.m., with exceptions: a June 16 meeting to begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Board of Appeals & Equalization at 6:30 p.m.; a Dec. 1 meeting at 5:00 p.m. followed by Truth in Taxation at 6:00 p.m.; and no regular meeting Dec. 8 because of the Association of Minnesota Counties conference. The board approved the schedule (with the added end-of-year meeting to allow the treasurer to pay bills) by voice vote.

Resolutions and designations: The board approved a set of routine resolutions and memoranda of understanding, including a resolution recorded as Resolution 2026-01 (newspaper designation and related memorandum) and Resolution 2026-02 designating the Holly Herald as the publication for notices of real property taxes and penalties; both motions carried.

Why it matters: Leadership and calendar decisions set procedural expectations for board and public access in 2026. Designating an official newspaper and approving MOUs are legal and administrative steps required for public notice and intergovernmental cooperation.

What happens next: Staff will publish the approved 2026 meeting calendar and make legal notices in the designated newspaper as required. The board's next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 13.
