Scott County board elects new chair, names Jody Brennan vice chair; honors commissioner for 25 years

The Scott County Board of Commissioners elected its leadership for 2026 at the Jan. 6 annual meeting and presented a service award to a long-serving member. An attendee nominated 'Commissioner Horwick' for chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote, and the board confirmed the new chair. The board then nominated and approved Commissioner Jody Brennan as vice chair.

The reorganization took place early in the meeting after the board amended the agenda to move recognition of interested citizens earlier in the order. County Administrator Leslie Vermillion introduced a certificate of merit honoring Commissioner Jonathan Ullrich for 25 years of service to the Scott County Board of Commissioners; the board and meeting attendees thanked Ullrich for his institutional knowledge.

Board procedure for each election followed standard practice: nominations were opened, a motion and second were recorded in the minutes, and the board voted by voice. The chair administered the confirmations and the board officially recognized the incoming chair and vice chair.
