Lane County extends Comcast franchise ordinance to June 2027 while negotiations continue

Lane County commissioners voted Jan. 6 to extend the franchise agreement with Comcast of Oregon and adopt ordinance 25‑09, extending the current agreement to June 30, 2027, to allow additional time to complete final negotiations.

County staff explained the extension preserves existing terms while the county, the City of Eugene and the City of Springfield (working jointly with LCOG) finish negotiating outstanding issues, including how gross revenue is calculated for county fees, right‑of‑way responsibilities, and service delineation in rural areas. Staff said the extension effectively carries forward the prior agreement and its revenue calculations so service and remittance to the county remain uninterrupted during negotiations.

There were no public speakers on the ordinance. Vice Chair Buck moved to close the public hearing and then moved to approve ordinance 25‑09; Commissioner Trigger seconded. The board voted unanimously by roll call to adopt the ordinance, and amendments became effective immediately under the declared emergency.

Staff said a final negotiated agreement will be returned to the board once resolved.
