Parent leaders plan multicultural events, volunteer drives and a December food distribution

CNDF meeting attendees spent substantial time on community engagement: cultural programming, volunteer recruitment, conferences and an upcoming food distribution drive.

Parents and chat participants urged more inclusive cultural events beyond Hispanic‑focused programming, calling for representation of Argentine, Vietnamese and Arabic cultures through evening multicultural nights and student cultural fashion parades. The president noted existing site events (some schools already hold cultural programs in May) and asked parents to raise the idea at their school‑site parent boards.

Volunteering and conferences: The group reviewed opportunities to volunteer in school libraries and at site events, described the Spanish volunteer application available at the meeting, and invited parents to register for regional conferences (KABE and a San Francisco conference). The Jornada Pedagógica Internacional was announced for Feb. 7 as a full‑day Spanish workshop for educators and parents.

Food distribution and community support: CNDF announced a community food distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Anderson School and requested volunteers to help pack and serve bags. The presenter urged attendees to share photos of site events for the CNDF archive and to distribute physical practice materials and books donated by the Mexican consulate.

Next steps: CNDF asked parents to take materials back to their school sites, register for volunteer roles, and bring cultural‑event proposals to upcoming site parent meetings.
