City finalizes 2025 crack-seal change order, project covers about 28 miles

Franklin City’s Board of Public Works and Safety approved a final balancing change order for the 2025 maintenance improvement program crack-sealing project, increasing the contract by $2,487.69 and bringing the total project cost to $184,597.60.

City engineer Matt McElroy described the change order as an adjustment to match actual material quantities used. “This change order is a final balancing change order, to adjust for material quantities, for actual materials used,” McElroy said. He told the board the work covered approximately 28.03 miles of city roadway.

McElroy and board members said crack sealing typically extends pavement life about three to five years. A board member moved to approve the change order and authorize the mayor to sign on the board’s behalf; the motion passed by voice vote.

The city indicated the crack-seal program will continue as an annual maintenance activity. The engineering office will finalize closeout documents and monitor the treated streets for performance.
