Resident urges speed‑feedback signage near new park and daycare on North 4th Avenue

David Holt, who identified himself as a longtime resident of North 4th Avenue, told the Big Rapids City Commission he has observed frequent speeding on his block, particularly near a recently opened city park and a new daycare at 1021 North 4th Avenue (Sweet Hill Daycare).

Holt said most drivers follow the limit but that a notable minority speed, creating safety concerns for children and other residents. He asked the city to consider adding more signage and suggested a radar speed-feedback sign between existing signs. "When I see a sign that lights up, tells me how fast I'm going, I'm like, I look immediately at my speedometer," Holt said.

The mayor and commissioners responded that they would raise the matter with the police chief and explore options such as additional signage or a radar feedback sign on the hill by the park. Staff indicated they would work on the request promptly.

The commission recorded the concern as public comment and directed staff to follow up with the chief of police about signage and traffic-calming measures.
