Louisa supervisors approve asking Virginia Tourism Corporation to recognize Go Virginia Region 9

The Louisa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution asking the Virginia Tourism Corporation to recognize Go Virginia Region 9 as a district tourism region, a move presented by county staffer Miss King on Jan. 5.

Miss King told the board that Louisa lacks a destination development manager through VTC and that joining the proposed Region 9 could secure that representation and increase the county’s visibility in state tourism materials. She said the arrangement would reorganize some counties out of the current Central Virginia region and into the new region to better reflect visitor travel patterns and shared economic ties.

Supervisors asked whether the change would harm existing relationships with neighboring counties, whether grants and the distribution process would be affected, and whether reentry into Central Virginia would be possible. Miss King said she anticipated collaboration would continue with counties such as Hanover and Goochland and that the change could affect grant-distribution mechanics but not necessarily negatively.

After discussion, the board approved the resolution to request recognition and to engage with VTC; members noted that additional discussion and a Feb. meeting with VTC were possible steps. The motion passed unanimously.
