Barbara Halliburton Elected Chair as Millington Board Reconstitutes Leadership

The Millington Municipal Schools Board of Education elected Barbara Halliburton as its chair and Debbie Clifton as vice chair at its January meeting, then moved on to routine business.

The board opened nominations for chair after calling the meeting to order. Theresa Cook declined a nomination due to family obligations; Barbara Halliburton accepted a subsequent nomination and was approved by roll-call vote. Debbie Clifton was nominated and approved as vice chair. Board members also confirmed a legal liaison in absentia after the nominee indicated she would accept if nominated.

The leadership votes were conducted by roll call and carried without recorded opposition. The board then approved the consent agenda, including the Dec. 1, 2025 meeting minutes, on a motion by Chris Denson and a second from Cody Childress.

Newly elected chair Halliburton thanked members for their support before the meeting moved to the director's report and school recognitions. The board set its chair and vice-chair roles for the coming year and confirmed processes for the remaining agenda items.
