Council confirms Peggy Schmitz to civil service commission; waives liquor hearing for Bell Stores

The Wooster City Council approved two procedural items on Jan. 5: the mayor’s nomination of Peggy Schmitz to the civil service commission and a motion to waive the liquor-control hearing for Bell Stores Inc., which is seeking new C1 and C2 licenses for 11684784 Cleveland Road (Madisonburg at Cleveland and Smithville Western).

Council moved and approved both items by voice vote. The mayor noted Reg Kramer’s 12 years of service on the civil service commission and thanked Peggy Schmitz for agreeing to serve; the nomination was presented to council for approval and the council signaled assent.

During miscellaneous public comment, Mister Barnett said residents believe the planned roundabout is ODOT-funded when, he asserted, the money will come from the city budget. Barnett said voters should be informed about the funding source and that he would help educate residents: “People need to know exactly where this money's coming out of our budget.”

Council members thanked Barnett for attending and noted the city will coordinate outreach and clarity on funding sources as needed.
