Rowan County board confirms appointments, enters closed session and authorizes legal agreement

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Rowan County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of appointments and reappointments to local advisory bodies and volunteer fire departments, then moved into a closed session under North Carolina statutes and took a post-session action to authorize a legal agreement.

The board confirmed commissioner appointments to the Cabarrus–Rowan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) advisory committee, approved technical-staff MPO appointees and accepted the resignation of Gary Yelton from the Housing Authority (effective Nov. 25). The board also approved several volunteer-fire-department appointments for districts including Poletown and South Salisbury.

Commissioner Pierce moved to enter closed session, citing North Carolina statutory authority for closed meetings; the motion carried and the board cleared the room. After returning from closed session the board approved a motion authorizing the county manager to enter into an agreement with an entity referenced in the transcript as "Dickens" for up to $80,000 for construction legal services. Those post-session authorizations were approved by voice vote.

The meeting concluded after the board approved adjournment.
