School district to issue regular legislative updates as session begins in Nashville

The board received a new regular legislative update initiative from the district's legislative liaison.

"This is something we're starting new this year...to keep everyone updated on what's going on in Nashville," the liaison said, noting meetings in December with Representative Alexander and, earlier in the day, with Senator Rusty Crow and Representative Tim Hicks. She said the legislature goes into session next week and the district will post updates on when bills are heard and when it is appropriate for parents and staff to contact legislators.

The liaison said the district will use social media and other channels to inform the community about education-related bills and will notify stakeholders when action is timely. Board members did not take formal action at the meeting; the item was presented as an information effort to improve district advocacy and communication.
