Peachtree City moves to apply for ARC TIP grant for grade‑separated crossing near Booth and McIntosh High Schools

Peachtree City staff on Tuesday asked council to approve applying for a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) grant through the Atlanta Regional Commission to fund a grade‑separated bridge and path connections between Booth and McIntosh High School areas.

City Engineer Dave Borkowski said staff identified this project as fitting ARC's solicitation for pedestrian and intersection safety projects and estimated total project cost of about $10 million, including the bridge and path work to the Peachtree East Shopping Center. The city would seek a local match of roughly $2 million. Fayette County has agreed to sponsor the city's application and to serve as the funding recipient and disbursement agent if the grant is awarded, Borkowski said.

Staff advised the grant application window was tight (closing Jan. 23) and included a draft council resolution in the packet. Councilmembers asked that crash and safety data be included to strengthen the application; staff said a Safe Streets for All review had flagged the corridor as a high‑impact pedestrian corridor and that relevant safety data would be included in the application.

The council voted to approve the resolution and authorize submission of the grant application.

Next steps include finalizing the application materials with supporting safety data, coordinating with Fayette County on the sponsorship, and returning to council with any funding or match adjustments required by the award conditions.
