Commissioners confirm appointments, approve vendor claims and cancel a $5,000 check

Commissioners filled numerous board vacancies and approved multiple vendor and payroll items during the meeting.

Appointments: The board appointed several members to the planning commission (including a mix of one-year and two-year initial terms to reestablish staggered terms), reappointed health board members, and approved appointments to the library and hospital boards and drainage board seats. Commissioners discussed residency and two-mile-jurisdiction rules and directed staff to confirm party-balance and term lengths where required.

Finance and vendor claims: Commissioners approved payroll for the referenced pay period and approved vendor claims totaling $985,100.74. Separately, a previously issued $5,000 check (no. 84012, dated 06/02/2025) intended for a community garden project and presented through a third party was returned because the recipient organization would not record the funds in its financials. Commissioners voted to cancel the returned check and asked staff to follow up with the recipient about nonprofit status and documentation before reissuing funds.

Minutes: Minutes from the December 15 meeting were approved. Commissioners asked staff to add clearer speaker attributions in future minutes so the public can see who made motions and comments.
