Sumner County officials agreed to return the countywide ADA plan to the committee next month after the county mayor warned the group it could lose TDOT funding without a formally adopted plan.
The mayor (Speaker 12) said: "We do not have an ADA plan in place right now... I will tell you that we are at risk of losing funding with TDOT if we do not get a plan formally adopted." Commissioners debated whether adoption requires immediate full implementation or a plan demonstrating staged benchmarks; Speaker 9 said the county must adopt an "all encompassing plan" but can stagger achievement of benchmarks.
Members asked staff to bring the prior evaluation and any updated materials to the next meeting so the committee can review options, including resurrecting a previously drafted plan or updating it. No formal adoption occurred at this meeting; the committee directed staff to prepare documentation for a future vote.
Next steps: staff will compile the prior ADA evaluation and options for incremental benchmarks and circulate the material for the committee’s next meeting.
