St. Francis board keeps member compensation steady, approves 2026 schedule, committee assignments and donations

The St. Francis Area Schools Board of Education on Jan. 6 voted to keep school board member compensation at existing levels, adopted a full 2026 meeting calendar and approved committee and liaison assignments for the year.

Speaker 2 introduced item 3.2 and said the packet included five years of compensation data and comparative rates from surrounding districts. After discussion, the board moved to retain current compensation and mileage reimbursement levels and approved the motion by voice vote.

The board also approved item 3.3, the meeting schedule for 2026, and then reviewed 19 committee and liaison assignments. Speaker 2 said the list can be changed if conflicts arise. The board approved the committee assignments by voice vote.

Speaker 2 highlighted the consent agenda and specifically called out item 5.4, a list of donations and gifts. The meeting record notes large donations from Mr. Shohrock that will benefit programs including the middle school track program. The board approved the consent agenda.

There was a question from Speaker 5 about procurement diligence: 'Have we done comparisons and price shopped to make sure that we're getting, the best bang for the buck here?' Superintendent (Speaker 1) responded, 'So we did not, do that this year,' and said the recommendation was to remain with Kennedy and Graydon, which had been the district's vendor and had submitted the only proposal this year.

The board's approvals were procedural annual actions to set governance practices and accept routine district business for 2026.
