Forest Park council elects Dolores A. Gunn mayor pro tem for 2026

Councilwoman Dolores A. Gunn was elected mayor pro tem of Forest Park on Jan. 5, 2026, when the City Council approved a resolution naming her to the post for a one-year term.

The city clerk read the resolution and associated background, citing City Charter section 2.22, which requires the mayor and council to elect a mayor pro tem from among its members at the first regular meeting in January. The resolution states the term commences upon adoption and continues through Dec. 31, 2026, or until a successor is duly elected in accordance with the charter.

Councilwoman Kimberly James moved to approve the resolution; Councilwoman Hector Gutierrez seconded. The council voted by voice and the motion carried. Mayor Gwen Ellison and council members present welcomed Gunn and noted the procedural timing: the resolution text was presented during the work session and voted on during the regular meeting.

The mayor pro tem is authorized to perform the duties of the mayor during the mayor's absence or disability, as described in the charter. The resolution was authorized for execution by the mayor and attestation by the city clerk as a public record.
