Lake Havasu City previews second phase of Main Street Commons, targets April completion

Lake Havasu City officials on a site update previewed the second phase of the downtown Main Street Commons project, saying it will add a concession/multi-use building and public restrooms and that contractors are aiming to finish by April.

“Hi, I’m Mayor Cal Sheehy,” the mayor began, inviting residents to a site walk-through and video series he called “Your City Behind the Cones.” Jason, a city staff member who accompanied the mayor on the update, said he has been involved with the downtown effort for a couple of years and described the project as a long-term legacy improvement for the community.

The city said the effort began with the America’s Best Community competition and followed multiple public hearings and design iterations that shaped the downtown vision. Officials said the first phase of the project has already opened, and that the council recently approved a second phase that includes the new concession/multi-use building and restrooms.

“The contractors really set an aggressive goal of being done here at the April,” Jason said, adding that crews are working concurrently on both buildings. Mayor Sheehy said the facility will still be useable while construction is under way.

Jason provided site-layout details, saying the concessions will sit on the northwest corner to provide convenient access from adjacent parking, and that the bathrooms will be placed on the southeast corner near the stage to keep them out of the limelight while remaining accessible.

City officials did not provide a formal council vote transcript in the update; they stated only that the council approved the second phase recently. No funding breakdown, contractor name, or hard completion date beyond the April target was announced in the recorded update.
