Missoula council elects Mike Nugent president, Jennifer Savage vice president; appoints members to standing committees

The Missoula City Council elected Mike Nugent as council president and Jennifer Savage as vice president during its Jan. 5 meeting.

Mayor and council rules require nomination prior to the vote; Amber Sherrill nominated Nugent for president and Meredith Becerra nominated Savage for vice president. Both nominations were put to roll-call votes and passed 10–1, with Councilor Kristen Jordan the lone recorded dissent in each vote.

Following his election, President Nugent appointed all council members to the standing council committees, continuing a recent tradition of full participation on the council’s committee slate.

The votes were conducted by roll call in chambers and online; the council did not separate any consent-agenda items and approved routine items including claims and a subdivision final plat earlier in the meeting.

Nugent (who chairs the Land Use & Planning committee) said he looks forward to working with the mayor and his colleagues. Councilors thanked outgoing leaders for their service and welcomed newly elected and re-elected members.
