Las Vegas committee approves housekeeping update to ward descriptions following county precinct changes

The Las Vegas Recommending Committee on Jan. 5 approved Bill 2025-43, an ordinance updating the city’s ward-description language to reflect precinct-number adjustments made by the Clark County Election Department.

Deputy City Attorney Jillian Block Zagerblum described the item as housekeeping: the county periodically combines, creates or removes precincts based on population shifts or annexation, and the city’s ordinance updates the descriptive language so municipal ward maps reference the county’s current precinct listings. Zagerblum emphasized these updates do not change ward boundaries themselves.

Committee members asked how often the county makes such adjustments; Zagerblum said the updates typically occur every two years, in the year prior to the next election, and are driven by population changes or administrative changes to precinct use. There were no public comments and the committee approved the item for referral to the January city council meeting.
