Meriwether County approves temporary office space for LIHEAP administrator

The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding authorizing a local LIHEAP administrator (identified in the record as "Kathy" and associated with CAPI) to use county office space to provide Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) services.

Under the MOU, Kathy/CAPI will be permitted to use general desk and office space at 17234 Roosevelt Highway Building B for designated weeks from Feb. 6, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2026, approximately three to four days per week (excluding Mondays) between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., subject to space availability. The MOU requires Kathy/CAPI to maintain commercial general liability insurance with limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, and to name the county and its officers and employees as additional insureds. The agreement specifies that it does not create a landlord–tenant relationship, that the county is not responsible for injuries or damages related to CAPI’s use, and that either party may terminate the agreement with at least five days’ written notice.

Staff recommended approval, and the board voted to authorize the MOU. Jennifer Corsiani was present online for questions about the arrangement. A commissioner noted the measure will help local residents avoid long drives to access LIHEAP services.

Next steps: Staff will finalize the MOU, confirm insurance documentation and coordinate occupancy schedule with Kathy/CAPI and county facilities staff.
