Seward County approves KWORK and KCAMP insurance plans and flags budget cost concerns

On Dec. 15 the Seward County Board approved two insurance procurements after staff and vendor presentations. Commissioners voted to accept a KWORK workers' compensation policy (cover letter dated Nov. 19, 2025) and separately accepted a KCAMP property and casualty proposal (also dated Nov. 19, 2025) presented as "apparently unmodified."

During discussion, commissioners and vendors addressed questions about equipment-rental coverage, policy caps, potential premium impacts, modification of vehicle and equipment schedules, and the trade-offs of joining an insurance pool. A KCAMP representative and Iron Insurance Partners described options for limits and the possibility of adding or reducing specific coverages. One commissioner cautioned that while joining a pool may lower near-term costs, it can be difficult to withdraw from the pool and could lead to unexpected expenses.

Commissioners passed motions to accept the KWORK workers' compensation coverage and to accept KCAMP for property/casualty; the votes were recorded by voice and noted as approved. Several commissioners emphasized the need for careful budget planning to address insurance costs as the county finalizes its overall budget.
