Brown County commission approves routine budget items, licenses and consent calendar

At the meeting’s consent and budget sections, commissioners approved a number of routine but consequential items.

Items approved by motion included a temporary special event alcohol license for the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce (no speakers registered to oppose), the addition of four uncollectable mobile homes to the county’s tax list (Treasurer’s presentation), and authorization for the chairman to sign the 2026 cooperative agreement with the Northeast Council of Governments. The commission also approved authorization to execute a county jail bid/contract with Roberts County (per packet), declared judicial reporter books surplus, authorized four towing vendors for county towing services, and adopted Resolution 2025-58 adjusting the discretionary assessment formula over a five-year incremental schedule.

During the budget hearing, the auditor asked for and received approval of an auto supplement, contingency transfers totaling $102,103.07 to cover departmental overages, and several budget assignments (including a request for election and opioid fund allocations). Commissioners also approved quotes to purchase ballot-on-demand printers and upgraded poll books for five sites, with staff noting potential state certification and partial reimbursement in the future.

The meeting closed after routine approval of minutes, claims and payroll and a motion to adjourn.
