Benton County adopts resolution ensuring open, accessible and nondiscriminatory programs

The Benton County Board approved Resolution R2025-024 committing the county to open, accessible programs and outlining a process for people to report alleged discrimination to the County Administrator.

County staff (Speaker 9) introduced the resolution and said it will supersede any inconsistent personnel or county policies and require follow-up work to update forms and communications. The resolution affirms that if residents feel they have experienced discriminatory behavior in county services or from county representatives, there is a defined process for raising those concerns and for the county to address them.

Commissioner (Speaker 8) moved to approve the resolution and the board adopted it by voice vote. Staff emphasized the resolution's scope applies across county departments, including federally funded programs, and noted the County Administrator will oversee complaint handling and policy alignment going forward.

Next steps: county counsel and staff will finalize public-facing materials and complaint protocols, and will advise the board on implementation steps and any necessary updates to departmental forms or training.
