Board approves consent agenda, notes recusal on fire training facility and schedules finance transfers for court repairs

The Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners approved the majority of its consent agenda at the Jan. 2 remote meeting, while noting a recusal on matters related to the municipal fire training facility and flagging near-term finance transfers for courthouse repairs.

A commissioner stated they would recuse themself from matters involving the municipal fire training facility, noting prior recusal on related activity; the board then moved to approve consent agenda items a, c, d, e, f, g, h and i, excluding item b. That motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote. The board later moved and approved item b separately.

The items on the agenda included a $100,000 earmark related to work on the burn building at the fire training facility. Administrator Michael Dutton told the board that initial PRB testing results for the former municipal fire training facility were included in the packet and appeared to be favorable.

Dutton also said the county must address immediate mechanical needs at court facilities: a chiller replacement and piping work for glycol at the first district court and boiler replacements at the superior courts. He said finance transfers to cover that work will be presented at the board's Jan. 14 meeting and reiterated the board's interest in seeking assistance from the Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) for larger courthouse projects.

The board recorded the consent actions as approved and asked staff to bring detailed finance transfer requests and any necessary background materials to the next meeting.
