Commission approves conditional‑use permit for 250‑foot NextTek communications tower

Planning staff (Speaker 4) presented case PC2505 for a 250‑foot communications tower proposed by agent Creighton Grama for NextTek Wireless on property owned by Russell Funk near 90th and Indigo.

S4 said the Planning Commission voted to approve the case on Dec. 4 with conditions in the staff report, including a requirement that if the tower is unused for 12 months it be declared abandoned and removed, and that above‑ground improvements be removed and underground improvements removed to a depth of three feet when decommissioned. S4 also noted that final construction was contingent on federal (FCC) approval, which staff expected in January 2026 after minor delays.

Commissioner S2 moved to approve the conditional use permit with staff conditions and to adopt resolution number 2025‑21; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

The resolution approves case PC2505 subject to conditions in the staff report and FCC approval. The county will require adherence to manufacturer installation recommendations, applicable federal, state and local regulations, and mitigation for interference with existing towers.

Next steps: staff will finalize permit documents and monitor the FCC process; the permit contains abandonment and removal provisions to ensure site restoration.
