Assessor urges eligible residents to apply for property tax relief; treasurer reports 95% first-half collections

The Ada County assessor and treasurer updated commissioners Dec. 30 on a pair of household‑facing programs and collection statistics.

The assessor said the county processed a little more than 5,100 successful property tax reduction or veterans benefits applications last year and estimated, based on census comparisons, that about 50% of eligible residents may not be participating. The assessor noted circuit‑breaker benefits (income‑ and age‑restricted) require annual application, while 100% service‑connected VA recipients do not need to reapply each year following a recent legislative change. Staff urged residents who believe they may qualify to apply by April 15 and said outreach efforts include in‑person assistance at four county locations.

The treasurer reported roughly 95% of first‑half taxes have been collected and about 28% of second‑half payments already received. Staff described a close review of postmarks for late payments and said distributions to taxing districts will proceed in January per Idaho law.

The board approved tax reductions (statutorily called "tax cancellations" in the agenda) listed on the agenda and authorized the chair to sign the documents.
