Museum retains key staff after reshuffle; museum FTE to change next fiscal year

Museum staff updated commissioners Dec. 31 on staffing changes intended to retain a valued employee and to manage budget and visitor demand.

A staff member identified as Sean said the museum had two full‑time employees and two extra‑help staff in June; since then, one extra‑help and the Saturday host left and the office combined roles to create a 30‑hour admin clerk position filled by Becky Smith. The speaker said the change reduced extra‑help costs, produces about 0.61 FTE in extra‑help hours for the current fiscal year and projects total museum FTE at about 2.75 next fiscal year depending on budget needs.

The speaker and commissioners said community response to programs is strong and that event capacity may require finding alternate venues for some upcoming programs. Commissioners thanked staff for retaining the employee and supporting museum programming.

Next steps: museum staff will monitor budget and program needs and consider whether to fill any additional extra‑help hours in the slow season.
