County schedules August 2026 '6p' election; Cheyenne told to prioritize $74.5 million in projects

City Councilman Dr. Mark Rennie said the county commission will host the next "6p" election in August 2026 and that Cheyenne's share of the proceeds will be $74,500,000. He told viewers the city reviewed projects presented during the last year and that the total requested funding significantly exceeds the amount the county allocated to the city.

"The total of all the proposed projects that have been presented to us is significantly more than 74,500,000.0," Rennie said, adding the council will need to "whittle that down to fit into the amount that the commission has given us." He said a review of the projects took place on Dec. 10.

The review is a preliminary step in deciding which capital and improvement projects the city will include on the ballot allocation if the countywide package advances. Rennie did not specify which projects will be cut or how prioritization will occur.

Next steps identified in the update include internal prioritization and further council consideration; Rennie did not announce any formal vote or final list. He said the council will balance many requests and noted many of the proposals are "worthy projects."
