Commission asks city to promote Concern for Neighbors food bank and donation options

The commission voted to sponsor a city communications effort to promote donations and ways to support Concern for Neighbors, the local food bank.

Members described growing demand at local food banks and noted that SNAP changes and other factors have increased need. The commission discussed mechanisms to support the food bank including online donations, PayPal, and linking Fred Meyer/QFC rewards to the nonprofit.

Commissioner 6 moved that the commission encourage the city communications team to post information about donating and reward-card links; the motion was seconded and carried. Staff will coordinate with communications to circulate donation links and suggested items and to promote the food bank during the coming weeks.
