Outgoing Brockton councilors thanked as leadership transition announced

At the close of the Dec. 22 meeting, council members used allotted time for recognitions and farewells as the current council prepares to transition.

The presiding officer wished residents happy holidays and said this would be his last meeting as council president, thanking colleagues for the honor of serving. Councilor Lally commended the president’s leadership, offered holiday wishes and thanked three outgoing councilors, including mayor-elect Moses Rodriguez and Councilor Tom Minichello. Several councilors gave personal remarks: Councilor Minichello reflected on his move from school service to the city council and thanked colleagues for their work during a term that included fiscal challenges. Another councilor delivered an emotional address thanking family, staff and voters and urging continued civic engagement.

Administrative note: the clerk and presiding officer reminded the public that, by state law, newly elected officials will convene Jan. 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the same chamber to establish the new city government; a public luncheon will follow and the caucus to choose the next council president will occur immediately after this meeting.
