Coffey County approves five small tax abatements after paperwork confusion

Coffey County commissioners voted Dec. 30 to authorize the chairman to sign five tax abatements totaling $785.92.

The motion to authorize signing the five abatements was moved by Evendroff and seconded by McCurry; the motion carried on a voice vote. Earlier in the meeting staff and commissioners discussed a separate batch of 11 abatements listed at $7,928.12 and whether those forms had already been signed; the larger packet was described but no formal vote on the 11-item set was recorded in that portion of the meeting.

Discussion during the meeting touched on routine reasons abatements are requested, including vehicle registration and damage-related matters, and on logistics for circulating forms so all members can sign. Staff agreed to circulate the five-abatement paperwork and follow up on any outstanding signatures.
