Coffey County moves to shore up capital-improvement reserve with year-end transfers

Coffey County finance staff told commissioners Dec. 30 they plan to use year-end available balances in the general fund to replenish the county's capital-improvement reserve.

The finance officer reported $471,000 in the community-improvements line and $400,000 in the wage-increase line that could be transferred into the capital-improvement reserve to extend funding for capital projects beyond the county's current three-year plan. Staff said they can also make smaller transfers from other departments as needed and will stop once the legal transfer limit is reached.

Commissioners agreed with the approach, with staff adding that they will honor any specific departmental requests to reserve funds for vehicle purchases or other needs. Staff will prepare transfer paperwork for the Wednesday year-end transfer meeting.
