Aberdeen council moves to lower low-income senior threshold to 200% of poverty (Bill 25-16)

The Aberdeen City Council opened a public hearing on Dec. 10 for Bill 25-16, a proposal to lower the low-income senior income threshold from 300% to 200% of the federal poverty guideline.

After the hearing — which produced no public testimony — council moved through the second reading of the ordinance and then voted to suspend the rules and treat the second reading as the third reading, allowing for immediate adoption. Council members voted in favor during roll call and the motion carried.

City staff recorded the adoption on the meeting docket; no amendments or conditions were listed on the record. The ordinance will change eligibility thresholds used for senior-rate discounts and related benefits once codified and implemented by staff.
