Downtown property owner tells council parking violations are burdening her business

Ashley Miller, who said she and her husband purchased the commercial building at 150 East Spring Street earlier this year, told the St. Marys City Council that persistent parking violations near her property have become a significant nuisance since the building closed.

"Since we closed, they've become my problem," Miller said, describing ten complaints filed with the local police department and code enforcement. She said the current enforcement system is not working and asked the council to place the matter on the Streets & Sidewalks committee agenda to consider legislative options, including assessing responsibility on building owners as well as individual violators.

A council member thanked Miller for raising the issue and said the council would "take another advice" on the matter; no formal referral or vote was recorded during the meeting. The Presiding Officer later mentioned scheduling Streets & Sidewalks business when taking closing items.

Miller's comment was the only public comment recorded on this topic during the meeting. The council did not adopt immediate enforcement changes during the session, so any policy response will depend on committee follow-up or future council action.
