Parents press board to make McNear fencing a top priority in bond implementation

Parents of McNear Elementary told the board they consider perimeter fencing and controlled campus access an urgent equity and safety priority that should be included in early bond implementation.

"McNear is the only elementary school in PCS that remains a completely open campus with no controlled access at any point," said Jocelyn Martin, a McNear parent and site‑council member. She asked the board to bring McNear "up to the same baseline level of safety and equity that all of the elementaries already have."

Scott Fishman, another McNear parent, echoed that request and described the campus as unusually open with multiple street access points close to classrooms. "I do think there should be a district priority for some more fencing around McNear School," Fishman said.

Board members acknowledged the public comments and noted the bond implementation discussion later in the meeting will be the forum for deciding which projects receive funding and when. Staff invited commenters to remain for the bond implementation discussion or to submit follow‑up written comments to district staff.
