Council agrees to form subcommittee to explore term limits for mayor and council

Councilmember Keating proposed formation of a council subcommittee to explore potential term limits for the mayor and council, saying the group would examine possible changes to Tempe's elections process with the stated goals of improving transparency, accountability and public trust.

Keating said Vice Mayor Garland and Councilmember Amberg requested to join the subcommittee. The mayor asked whether there were any questions; none were raised and the council indicated consensus to move the proposal forward.

The proposed subcommittee will study options and report back with recommendations; no ordinance or binding policy was adopted at the work study session and the formation will follow council rules for subcommittee creation and subsequent public engagement if required.
