Commission approves 10-year, $1.3 million technology and equipment agreement with Axon for police

The Town Commission on Dec. 2 approved a 10‑year master services and purchasing agreement with Axon Enterprise Inc. valued at $1,299,700 to consolidate the police department’s body‑worn and in‑car cameras, Taser 10 devices, virtual‑reality training, automatic refresh of devices and cloud-based integration tools.

The police chief, presenting the proposal, said the agreement consolidates prior add‑ons, absorbs the remaining balance of the current contract and locks in pricing and device refreshes for the next decade. He described Axon’s FUSIS (fused information platform) as a means to integrate live feeds, license‑plate recognition, and resident-submitted video into a single information center to aid prevention and investigations.

On cost, staff said initial payments for the early years can be absorbed in the current budget and that the contract will be reflected in subsequent annual budgets; staff described the first‑year incremental increase as modest compared with current spend. Commissioners repeatedly framed the purchase as a public‑safety investment and supported authorizing the mayor to execute the agreement.

Vote: commissioners approved the agreement by voice vote with affirmative votes recorded on the public record. Staff will return with rollout details, resident opt‑in/participation guidance for private cameras, and a cost breakdown for associations and homeowners who may choose to link cameras to the town’s information center.
