County fire vehicle damaged in crash; commissioners told emergency purchase may be requested

An unnamed county speaker reported during the Dec. 29 meeting that a Riley County fire/rescue vehicle driven by a battalion chief was involved in a collision after another vehicle unexpectedly came out of a ditch and pulled in front of the truck.

The speaker described extensive damage to the front of the county vehicle and the trailer's tongue being ripped off; airbags deployed and the frame was bent. "Don't be surprised if we come back next week with a request for an emergency purchase," the speaker said, noting staff had contacted personnel ("Britney") and were completing paperwork.

Commissioners acknowledged the report and that the injured person was transported to the hospital; no further action was taken at the Dec. 29 meeting, and staff indicated they would return with procurement requests if needed.
