Pharr fire chief reports four vacancies next year, invites commission to New Year’s Eve event

Fire Chief Pilar Rodriguez told the Pharr Civil Service Commission on Dec. 29 that the fire department expects to fill four vacancies next year, primarily the result of retirements.

"We'll have 4 vacancies to fill, this coming year," Rodriguez said, noting attrition through retirements in the department. She also invited the Civil Service Commission to the New Year's Eve ball drop on Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to midnight in downtown Pharr, calling it "probably... the most fun event" the department staffs each year.

Rodriguez described the event as high-energy and an annual duty the department performs; commissioners thanked department personnel for their work through the year. The civil service director's representative, B Fuentes (HR coordinator for Veronica Ramirez), reported no items to add.
