Kenston staff outline permanent improvement priorities, cite $1.2 million annual PI revenue and project examples

The district’s administrative team reviewed planned uses of the district’s permanent improvement (PI) funds at the Dec. 15 board meeting and reminded members that PI revenues are released on July 1 each year.

Officials said the annual PI revenue available to the district is approximately $1.2 million and outlined candidate projects and cost estimates: roof replacement work at Timmons (approximately $325,000), auditorium lighting and PA system upgrades at the high school, lunch‑table replacement for safety reasons, technology lab cycles including Project Lead The Way equipment, and athletic projects such as resurfacing the main competition gym floor and setting aside funds for field and track replacement. The administration emphasized routine procurement practices—seeking three quotes and using vetted consortium agreements—and said contract awards will come back to the board for formal approval.

Administration also reported smaller ongoing items: furniture upgrades, custodial equipment replacement, and transportation planning for annual bus procurement. The treasurer noted the district typically posts PI project details and five‑year plans to the website and will provide a mid‑year budget update in January.

No final capital contracts were approved at the meeting; the board was asked to approve scope and prioritization and will see individual procurement actions when bids and quotes are finalized.
