Board signs off on Chandler High HVAC controls upgrade citing energy savings

District facilities staff told the board that Chandler High School’s HVAC controls, installed in the 1990s, have reached the end of their useful life and many controllers are now obsolete. The board approved contracting through a State of Arizona contract (CTR62668) to replace those controls.

Tom Dunn presented the project scope and recommended vendor; the presentation cited replacement of obsolete controllers, delivery of Niagara framework software, control mapping and point-to-point connections. Staff estimated first-year utility cost savings of about $109,000 for Chandler High School and noted an expected APS rebate (approximately $80,000) tied to demand reductions. Dunn said typical useful life for control systems is about 20–25 years.

The motion recorded in the meeting text referenced a purchase amount of $1,302,009.74 through a state contract; the facilities presentation cited a recommended contract amount of $1,302,974. The board approved the purchase and staff said they would provide fuller HVAC project scheduling and a facilities-maintenance schedule in an upcoming capital update.
