Virginia Public Library reopens after flood; announces December events

Jody Grabenowski, director of the Virginia Public Library, told the council the library experienced a flood between Saturday and Monday when "something around the drinking fountain exploded," causing water damage from the event room to staff offices. Staff and ServiceMaster removed hundreds of gallons of water; the building was closed two days and reopened at noon the following Wednesday. Grabenowski said carpet was removed in the staff area, some sheetrock was taken out around the drinking fountain, and a bulletin board and other fiber items were damaged.

Grabenowski also invited the public to December library activities: tech-assistance hours starting Dec. 1, Yards of Yarns, board-game sessions, family story time on Dec. 5, and a Yule book event on Dec. 13 featuring local authors and live music. She provided a contact number for questions and thanked city staff for the rapid response to the flood.
