Commissioners authorize emergency funding to cover airport legal fees tied to land acquisition

Kerr County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve emergency funding requests to close out legal obligations tied to acquisition of roughly 54 acres east of the Kerrville airport.

Airport manager Kirk Griffin explained the fees were an unbudgeted tail cost from the land-acquisition process and are necessary to complete audit and close fiscal-year 2025 books. The total legal bill was described in the meeting as about $127,000; the county's share would be approximately $63,820 and the city would cover the other half. County officials said contingency funds and an expected TxDOT Aviation reimbursement around August 2026 will offset the expense, but they characterized the request as exigent and approved payment to satisfy outstanding obligations.

Commissioners framed the expenditure as an investment in the airport's long-term capital plan and said they expect the airport to remain self-sufficient once improvements are complete.
