Hardin County approves FY2025 budget amendments to cover departmental overages and payroll adjustments

Hardin County Commissioners Court on Dec. 23 approved a series of FY2025 budget amendments and internal transfers to cover department overages and payroll adjustments.

Missus McCann, presenting the item, said the package runs six pages and includes transfers to operating expense lines and moves between salary and fringe accounts to cover unanticipated costs. Noted items included $333,550 in the commissioners court for costs tied to capital murder trials and autopsies, $98,138 in jail overages (including $22,018 for prisoner food and $76,050 for prisoner medical), and $23,064 needed in the sheriff’s department largely related to overtime and dispatch salary overages. McCann said part of the sheriff dispatch match was funded by moving money from deputy salary line items.

The presentation listed multiple smaller transfers across county functions: county clerk preservation, district and county clerk salary adjustments, floodplain salary/fringe corrections, technology and emergency management salary moves, and road and bridge precinct overtime. McCann said some transfers stem from accruals and insurance changes and some covered unanticipated overtime work.

Commissioners discussed the highlights rather than reading every line; the court moved to approve the amendments, and the motion passed by voice vote.

The court later approved a related sheriff’s FY26 budget amendment to record sale of assets ($65,675.92) and insurance proceeds (about $44,007.98) and adjust the auto‑purchase line (a minor numeric correction of 34 cents was noted and accepted). Judge McDaniel made the motion to approve that amendment.

The amendments are recorded in the meeting packet and were adopted to ensure departmental budgets remain balanced and payroll transfers are funded for year‑end processing.
